Auctioneer Schools

Auction School and Curriculum Information

Every career school or college desiring to operate in this state or do business in this state shall make written application to the Texas Workforce Commission, Career Schools and Veterans Education Section at 512-936-3100 or at http://propschools.texasworkforce.org.

Career Schools or colleges having a Certificate of Approval issued by the Texas Workforce Commission may obtain department approval by submitting an Auction School Curriculum Approval Application (33kb PDF) along with the certification and a copy of the program outline/curriculum.

If the school is exempt or is not required to apply with the Texas Workforce Commission, it may submit to the department the Auction School Curriculum Approval Application (33kb PDF) along with documentation stating it is exempt or is not required to be registered and a copy of the 80 hour auction school program/curriculum.

TDLR-Approved Auction School Curriculum

Bid Calling, Chant, Rhythm, Speed, Breathing Techniques, Voice Control & Clarity, Numbers: 16 hours
Accounting and Mathematics: 8 hours
Auctioneering Ethics: 2 hours
Handling Sale Proceeds and Escrow Accounts: 2 hours
Auction Preparation and Setup: 2 hours
Auctioneers Law, Rules and Regulations: 8 hours
Clerking and Cashiering: 2 hours
Antiques, Farm Auctions and Livestock: 2 hours
General Auction Advertising, Radio, Print, etc.: 4 hours
Closing Statements and Settlements: 2 hours
Drafting and Negotiating Contracts: 2 hours
Uniform Commercial Code and UCC1 Search: 2 hours
Course Review and Testing: 3 hours
Miscellaneous Subjects (Heavy Equipment, Real Estate, Automobile Auctions, Art, Estate Sales, Firearms, Foreclosures and Bankruptcy, Rugs, Ring Work, Field Trips, Jewelry, Consignment Auctions, Student Auctions, Contracts, Public Speaking, How to Get Business, Management, Taxes, Tobacco, Computers, Appraising): 25 hours
